Very weird and almost evil looking, I'd hate to stumble across something like that in real life.

great :D
What is inside that temple?
(I see that huge fractalish door you'd just need to open :giggle:)

Thank you.

To see "inside" requires somewhat more sophistacated algorithms and/or a lot more rendering time ;)

Did you yet try my derivation formula?
( [link] )
It seems too simple to be true, kinda... I didn't exactly test if it is the true derivation... (Don't have any clue about 3D programing^^)

However I did a Buddhabrot-style "Mandelbrot derivative" so to say. IF it is the derivative...
I'll upload that now although it's still very noisy...

The derivative you described is exactly how the derivative is calculated when getting the value for use in the distance estimation :)

Incredible.
Looks like taken out of one of Giger's worst nightmare!
Love it.

You guys are causing quite the stir with the Mandelbulb!!!! I saw Daniel White's page the other day....Lots of great images!!! Noticed you mentioned a number of times!!! :salute:

Yep - it made it to slashdot first, then New Scientist and the Discovery Channel pages.
The usual hits on my own website was around 40 to 50 unique visitors a day, when the article appeared on slashdot the next day I had over 600 and since then I'm getting around 100 a day still.

If not now then they might at the Mathematician's Congress next year because with the text to go with my winning image "7th level Mandelbrot temple" [link] I invited the readers to show whether or not the "Mandelbulbs" are connected or not, and if they are then if they're topologically spheres or not (though given the "bridges" that appear in them I think that may be unlikely).
Note that unfortunately when I wrote the text they hadn't yet been christened "Mandelbulbs" by Daniel so I didn't actually use that term :(

This was very interesting reading, any news about this? When is the Mathematician's Congress taking place?

Congratulations!! Sorry I didn't say that sooner! I haven't followed the contests the last few years. I've been mostly doing apophysis flames and 3D art now. All this is kind of exciting!! I really wish I understood the math better!! I'm an engineer and focused on differential equations and such....

I wish I understood differential equations better - it would help with respect to some of the fractal maths I think but I've forgotten just about everything I learnt about them (some 30 odd years ago).

Well I don't think "the Anointed" in this case are altogether wholesome ;)
